In 1999, the home was closed as a Nursing Home, and a major renovation project was undertaken to up-grade all the facilities, registering as a Residential Home in April 2000 for 14 Residents in 12 rooms, all rooms with en-suite facilities, with Residents a lounge, dining room and a TV/ quite room.
In July 1987, they purchased no 32 Winchester road, which they converted into a small Residential Home for 7 residents, extended into no. 34 in 1989, providing facilities for 15 Residents.
In 1993 they built extensions to enable 20 Residents to be accommodated in 18 rooms, all room having en-suite facilities.
There have been numerous changes in Government policies and legislation of Care provision over the years. The NHS and Community Care Act 1990, the replacement of the Registered Homes Act 1984 with the Care Standards Act 2000, which became law in April 2002 and the substantially increased requirement for “paper work”, changes needed to be made.
After 29 years at The Hurst, the business was sold as a going concern,
to enable Sally and Clive to concentrate on managing the residential homes, which were registered with the then NCSC in April 2002.
As part of the Care Standards Act 2000, as Proprietors, and Registered as Managers under the Registered Homes act 1984, were required to complete the Registered Managers Award (NVQ level 4), which both Sally and Clive completed within four months in April 2005.
Sally is Registered as the Manager of Heaton House and Clive as the Manager of Highgrove House under the Care Standards Act 2000.
